Born in Leicestershire, England, David studied at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music. Together with Jamie Hersch (Associate Principal Horn) and Fredi Sonderegger (Associate Principal Trombone and Bass Trombone) of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), the trio set up the Partners in Brass (Singapore), the home of Top Brass, ProWINDS, BrassArt, WindArt and Brass Society Ltd.
David is currently the Associate Principal Trumpet of the SSO and a faculty member of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and previously at School of the Arts (SOTA). Prior to Singapore, David spent three years with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the baton of maestros Claudio Abaddo and Daniel Harding. He has been honoured to work with many of the world’s leading conductors including Lan Shui, Gustavo Dudamel, Philipe Herwegge, Tugan Sokhiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Marc Minkowski.
David has travelled the world playing in many internationally renowned orchestras under the baton of the premier conductors of our time. These include: the Philharmonia, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera Philharmonic Orchestra de Gran Canaria, and the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.Part of David’s heritage of brass playing comes from the British-style brass band. He is proud to be the Principal Cornet of the Desford Colliery Band, an ensemble established in 1898 and one of UK’s finest exponents of this medium.
David can be heard on numerous orchestral and chamber ensemble recordings for Deutche Gramophone, Virgin Classics, BIS, Hyperion and Chandos. |
